GPS HD by Motion X
The first thing I ran into when looking at map programs for use while flying a balloon was big money. Many were expensive and also required a map purchase or subscription.
The first thing I noticed about using Motion X is that everything is EASY. The Icons make sense to me and they are readily available always. For a $1.99 this thing is a STEAL!
Motion X is packed and I mean PACKED full of features. From flight planing to in-flight tracking it will do more than you can imagine.
First off MAPS. You have a huge selection of maps to use. You can use road maps or satellite or Terrain and even Hybrid. Google Maps and Apple Maps and Bing Maps.. With a live GPS hookup.
The next great feature is that you can import your way-points. Just send your tablet an email containing your GPX file and tap and import it. Create new way points with a tap of a finger and relocate ones you don't like with a few taps on the screen. This program is so well made that you will be able to actually use the program in just minutes.
There is a little icon on the map screen called Measure. The Icon is a small ruler and when you click on it there will appear on the screen two target sights with a line between them. One is green and the other is red. Put your finger on the green one and drag it to where you want to launch and then drag the red one to where you want to land. At the top of the screen will be an information center that will tell you your GPS locations of the green and red sights but it will also tell you the distance and direction between the two. GREAT TOOL for competition flying.
Down at the bottom of your map screen are two little white arrows. If you tap on them the menu bars on the left and right hand side of the screen will retract and you will have the entire screen in map mode. Tap again and the menu's will slide back in place. Another great feature.
Zoom in and out on the map using the easy + and - icons on the right hand side of the screen and center the map on your location by tapping on arrow icon.
The Address Search is fantastic and will locate just about any location you want.
