I use an 1 3/4 inch webbing very similar to a seat belt. We sew a large loop in the end of the webbing and lace it into the top bracket on the tommy lift where the frame goes into the back of the van.
We also slide a bungy ball strap inside the loop. This is used when we are flying to tie up the strap so it does not get caugt in the gate or run over out in the field. We take the strap and fold it accordian style and then wrap the strap around it twice and then over the ball. Something like this.
On the other side, Passenger side of the vehicle since the pilot drives and the crew unloads the basket. We have another strap with the quick release buckle. Here again we just sewed a large loop in the end of the strap and looped it thru the mounting frame of the Tommy Gate.
Here is the unseen benifit of this system. It is strong enough to hold the basket tight but you can not over tighten it like you can with a ratchet style. If you take a close look at the baskets where the pilot uses a ratchet style strap you will see an indentation where they have squeezed the basket to tight over time. On this system you have to manually pull the strap tight like you do with a seat belt on an airplane. Snug but not to tight.
Here is where you can purchase the hardware.
Quick release
Catch end.
As always if you have question you can email or call.
