  1. §61.35 Knowledge test: Prerequisites and passing grades. (a) An applicant for a knowledge test must have: (1) Received an endorsement, if required by this part, from an authorized instructor certifying that the applicant accomplished the appropriate ground-training or a home-study course required by this part for the certificate or rating sought and is prepared for the knowledge test; So something like this is fine: “I certify that -- John Michael Smith -- has accomplished the appropriate ground training required by 14 CFR Section 61.105((1-13), [or 61.125 ( (1-16) for the commercial written test] as applicable, and is prepared for the “Private Pilot Balloon Hot Air” [or “Commercial Pilot Balloon Hot Air”] knowledge test.” Signed_______________________ Printed name___________________________ Commercial Pilot Certificate No.__________________ Not to confuse things, but that endorsement is not required to be in a logbook, (it just says “received an endorsement,” so a letter is allowable….or it can be tattooed onto his forehead!) though the logbook is the best place to put it because eventually, when the applicant takes the practical test, then a “logbook endorsement” covering the knowledge training is required [see 61.103(d)(1) and 61.123©(1)]. To accompany that endorsement, there must be evidence, in the log book (or some other recording document) that shows training in those areas was accomplished. 61.105 & 61.125 both require the applicant to “receive and log” ground training (or complete a home-study course, instead).

Amarillo, Texas - November 7-8, 2014 "Pirates of the Canyon" was created for spectators, pilots and crews. Palo Duro Canyon, the second largest canyon on the continent, is generally restricted from aircraft which makes this event a very unique experience. Park Rangers open the state park for this rare treat to combine the beautiful colors of hot air balloons with the majestic backdrop of the canyon. This is how we all become pirates. We set our giant sails in the center of the open canyon and drift slowly, stealing the sights and forever holding them as our own treasures. Over the past six years, Pirates has grown considerably. We started out with only six balloons and have rapidly grown to thirty. Thanks to the Amarillo and Canyon public, Pirates of the Canyon will continue to grow in the years to come. I would like to personally thank the Pirate volunteers and all of the people involved in helping with this event. The rally would not have been possible without each and every one of their dedicated service to this rally. Thank you for joining us during this spectacular event. Chris Jones Rally Coordinator

The Great Mississippi River Balloon Race is Mississippi's most exciting festival! Pilots compete to win prizes Saturday and Sunday mornings by tossing out sandbags onto a large ground target! See the beautiful array of balloons as they fly over the cities of Natchez, Vidalia, and the Mississippi River. Our balloon festival weekend starts with the Friday Morning Media/Biathlon Flight and continues through Sunday evening with a stage full of World Renowned Musicians. The festival takes place on the grounds of Rosalie Bicentennial Gardens (CLICK FOR MAP), On Broadway Street in historic downtown Natchez. Come and enjoy the live music all weekend long! The festival grounds feature a carnival section with plenty of rides, games and fun for children of all ages. Watch college football on Saturday and the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at the popular Sports Bar Tent! There’s always plenty of food to choose from when you get hungry, even a selection from some local chefs! The Great Mississippi River Balloon Race has become a popular tradition here every October, so make your hotel or bed and breakfast reservations early. For more info about Hotel or Bed and Breakfast accommodations see VisitNatchez.org or NatchezMS.com Many people ask us about take off and landing locations. Due to the nature of our race, those locations change frequently. We can tell you that the best place to watch is from the festival grounds! PLEASE! No pets, ice chests, tents, food or drink from outside the gates, weapons, or illegal substances. Security will check bags, backpacks, strollers and wagons at all entrances for your safety. These items are not permitted and this rule will be enforced at all entries to the festival ground, no exceptions. Thank you! http://www.natchezballoonrace.com/
