Despite the rain, we had another terrific balloon festival this year! Most of the balloons launched on Saturday night and they all went up on Sunday morning. The fireworks lit up the sky on Friday night and two of the balloons held a "mini-Glow" on Saturday night after the Taste of Cambridge. If you stayed in because of the rain - you missed out! Thanks to all the sponsors, volunteers, and visitors. Hats off to the community organizations that held activities throughout the weekend - especially the Lions Club with the first-ever Balloon Festival Auto Show! Click here for our THANK YOU CARD! A special thank you to our featured pilots (Russ, Bill, Mike, Rob, Ron, Dave, Glenn, Penny, Mark P) and our Balloon Meister Mark Donahue! We are already looking forward to the 13th Annual Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival! Mark your calendars for June 7-9, 2013.

The Hillsborough Balloon Festival and Fair has become a major four day event since it was created by merging the former Hillsborough Firemen's Weekend and Hillsborough Balloon Festival. Recently, an Artist's Fair has been established during Balloon Festival weekend, sponsored by the Hillsborough Area Artisans. The Hometown Parade on Sunday has grown to include many civic groups with marching bands, floats, military personnel and a wide assortment of fire apparatus from all over New Hampshire. But the thrill of the weekend are the Hot Air Balloons piloted and crewed by regional balloon enthusiasts. Balloon flights over New Hampshire's beautiful Monadnock Region are available to the general public along with tethered flights for the more cautious.

Balloon Fest Celebrating its 28th year! More than 25,000 spectators will have the opportunity to experience approximately 25 of these magical giants close-up as part of the ever popular Balloon Fest. Anyone interested may attend this free event at Bulldog Field, 1100 North Freedom Boulevard, Provo. Balloons will be flying each morning from 6:30-8 a.m., July 3 and 4. The event offers families and children the privilege of walking around the balloons as they inflate. Make sure and arrive at 6:30am to see the balloons inflate. Keeping in the tradition of the Balloon Fest, pilots will again participate in the Hare and the Hound competition where “hound” balloons try to drop bean bags onto a target laid out by the “hare.” They can obtain additional points through jousting as they attempt to pop large balloons with sharp sticks 200 to 300 feet above the ground. Top pilots from around the nation come to compete in this unique and difficult event. The majority of the Balloon Fest committee have been working together since the inception of this event 28 years ago. Our thanks go out to these wonderful long-term volunteers!! The Crown of Maine Balloon Fest was born as part of the 2004 Isle Fest, when local pilot Dena Winslow and Canadian pilot Wild Bill Whelan convinced the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce to give it a try. In addition to Dena and Bill, Doug Shippee from New Brunswick flew that first year. Isle Fest 2005 saw the expansion to five balloons and in 2006 the number of balloons rose to nine and Isle Fest was re-dubbed the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest. Since then the festival has continued to grow and has seen some of the best flying around. Pilot’s Wendell Purvis and Joel Jones claim that The County is one their favorite places to fly due to the beautiful landscapes and friendly folks. We tend to agree and we hope that in 2013 you’ll join our pilots as they paint the sky for the tenth year. Aroostook County also holds a place in ballooning history as the home to two famous Transatlantic Balloon Flights. In 1978, the Double Eagle II launched from Presque Isle and made the first successful crossing of the Atlantic. In 1984, Joe Kittinger became the first person to make the solo Transatlantic balloon journey, he launched from Caribou.

As dusk falls over W.K. Kellogg Airport, some MAGICAL ILLUMINATIONS begin. During our "Balloon Illumes" the launch field will be lit up with the glowing burners of over 20 Hot-Air Balloons. This "picture-perfect" sight is something that you won't want to miss and will become one of your favorite family memories forever. http://www.BCBalloons.com. The Balloon Illumes also incorporate some audience participation. You will be asked to say "Twinkle" or "Light 'Em Up". When you say "Twinkle", the pilots will light their burners in spurts, causing them to twinkle. When you say "Light Em Up", the flame will stay lit and the grounds will light up. The "Balloon Illumes" are a fan-favorite part of the Field of Flight, year after year. There will be TWO Balloon Illumes throughout the course of the 2013 Event. These will be announced at a later date.

Welcome to the 2012 Flag City Balloonfest. This year’s Flag City Balloonfest, our 13th anniversary, is bigger, better, and more exciting than ever. We have expanded the event from 41 Hot Air Balloons last year, to over 50 Balloons from all over the country. We’ve also added many new “Special Shape” balloons that have become crowd favorites. And we’ve scheduled many new and fun events and activities over the weekend for all to enjoy. Visit our website www.flagcityballoonfest.com and check the schedule often as it is updated frequently. Each year the Flag City Balloonfest Committee works tirelessly to organize what has become Findlay’s Signature, and Most Popular annual event, and it is FREE to all who wish to attend. This is possible by the overwhelming local corporate sponsorship that increases year-to-year and allows the Balloonfest to continue to grow. Again we welcome First Federal Bank as our returning Presenting Sponsor. First Federal Bank has been a long-time supporter of the Flag City Balloonfest, as have most of our sponsors. Please visit the sponsor page on our website, and patronize these sponsors that support our community. They are truly the best of the best. The Hot Air Balloon Competition will be as intense as ever with the pilots competing for National Points and Cash Awards. 44 balloons will be entered into the competition event which includes three competition flights racing for targets that are located around the Greater Findlay area. These target locations are un-announced until just before each competition launch, and the pilots must make quick decisions for flight planning to achieve these targets. So pick your favorite balloon and pilot, and follow their progress over the weekend. When the balloons aren’t flying you can enjoy all the other activities going on over the weekend at Emory Adams Park. These include tethered balloon rides, helicopter rides over the City, Kids Fair with kid’s rides, pony rides, Car and Motorcycle show, 5K run, Corn Hole tournament, Wheelchair races, 25 food vendors, and many more exciting things to do and see. The ever popular evening “Glow” on Friday and Saturday night and, weather permitting, Fireworks show on Saturday evening after the Glow. And as we did last year, we hope to raise over $40,000.00 to benefit local charities. Bring the family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy Findlay’s most fun-filled weekend of the year. As we look to the sky at the colorful display over Findlay, keep your eyes peeled, as there is a strong rumor that the USAF may be flying over the City.
