About your host: Jeff A Thompson has flown competition for nearly 5 decades. Starting at a young age, placing 3rd at the National Championships and winning the regional championships at age 18 in 1978. This would rank him as the #5 pilot in the country and earn him a place on the United States World Team along with pilots such as Sid Cutter and Bruce Comstock & David Schaefer. Three decades later he would still be winning events like the Carolina Balloon Fest in 2008 and become a 6 time Florida state champion. Even more than three decades later he would still rank as the #10 pilot in the United States. His skill and techniques have made him a constant top performer in balloon competition. The Exchange
The Exchange is an online bulletin board for balloonist's in any specific area.
Lets say you fly in the St Louis area. You know there are several other pilots who fly in that area. Have them all get a general membership to the site then have each one select the "Follow" feature on the four forums in your Exchange.
Remember a General Membership is only $20/year. Less than a cup of coffee A MONTH!
Then if you need crew you start a topic. If you find a new Launch and landing spot you start a topic. If you need help you start a topic. If you find an unhappy landowner you start a topic. If you are a ground crew and want to crew more you start a topic. If you have a party for balloonist's you start a topic. If you need help fixing equipment you start a topic. Anything you want everyone in your area to know you start a topic. The HAB system will send an email to every one who follows your exchange. Its an online bulletin board for you and your fellow ballooner's in your area.

What is my Membership Type?
On HotAirBalloonist.com your membership type determines a great deal about what you can and can not do. Many areas of the site are only viewable by certain types of memberships. Some areas you may be able to view and read but your membership does not allow you to post or reply. There are many many levels of permission's on the site.
Here is a brief explanation of permissions.
There is an area on this site for every aspect of the balloon world. Pilots, Manufacturers, Dealers, Equipment for sale, Students, Clubs, DE’s, Insurance, Festivals, Crew, Ride Operators and more. There are different membership levels for everyone. Each membership has a set of permissions customized for that membership.
The permissions are as follows.
View a topic, Respond to a topic, Start a topic, Upload a file, Download a file.
These 5 permissions have been set for each Category and Sub-Category on the site and for every membership. To give you a little feel for the scope of this. There are currently 35 main Categories, 250 Sub-Categories, 12 Modules, and 22 Member Groups. That is a bunch of settings and there are 5 permission settings for each set.

On HAB when you make a post or reply to one you have the ability to sign your topic. This is called a Signature. If you create a Custom Signature then the HAB system will automatically sign your post or reply for you! Take a moment and view this video then create your own Signature.

YES YOU CAN! Do you have a video about your event? Is it on YouTube? When you create an event on the Calendar on HotAirBalloonist.com you can include any promotional videos you may have online on YouTube. Just copy the URL and place it into the details window of your event and POOF! The video will play right within your event page.
