July 24, 2020 From: Jim Day, Board President Steve Ticknor, Executive Director On behalf of the Havasu Balloon Festival Board of Directors, I want to thank all of you who have supported and contributed to the success of the Havasu Balloon Fest. In our first 10 years we have donated over $1 million dollars back to various nonprofits throughout Lake Havasu City. The two Lions Clubs and the three Rotary Clubs successfully collaborated to create this amazing annual event! It is with sadness, and yet in good conscience, that we announce the cancellation of the 2021 Havasu Balloon Festival and Fair. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected many of our sponsors and represents a potential threat to our volunteers and attendees alike. Unless there is a dramatic change in the current situation, it is unlikely that we can be assured of financial success in January 2021. We regret this decision and did not reach it lightly. Many community organizations rely on financial support of the Rotary and Lions Clubs and have higher than typical need at this time. If you have not been hurt by Covid-19, please consider direct support of these organizations or make a contribution to your favorite Rotary or Lions Club. We trust that you will understand our position of providing a safe and successful event, and that we will be back in 2022. This Hot Air Ballon Festival in Texas is a world class competition attracting the best pilots from across the world. It is a Balloon Federation of America event and one of the most important big balloon events in Texas, and is included in top-20 list of hot air balloon festivals in the U.S. Great Texas Balloon Race is a three-day festival held every July at the East Texas Regional Airport field outside Longview. Due to this race, Longview earned the title of "The Balloon Capital of Texas" granted in 1985. Every summer about 50 balloonists participate in the exciting competition. Other entertainment activities include live concerts, balloon tours and flights. Balloon Glows will entertain spectators every night with a great display of color and excitement. Great event, in the wide open spaces of Northern Nevada, 12 balloons, flying every morning, and school presentations and a Friday evening 'glow' show, with the largest gathering of locals attending. If you have driven across Northern Nevada and stopped in Winnemucca for gas or food and thought WOW, this would be a great place to fly, here is your chance. Invitations go out to last years pilots first in mid January then it opens to others to apply to attend. Have had pilots from all over the west attend and most come back year after year for the fun and easy going attitude of the event and local area.
